The Workday Security Architect position is a key role within a leading Human Capital Management (HCM) organization, focused on creating, maintaining, and optimizing the security architecture within Workday. Operating as an expert in Workday security, this position is responsible for ensuring that all HCM modules, reporting features, and integrations within the Workday ecosystem remain secure, compliant, and scalable. The Workday Security Architect collaborates closely with cross-functional teams—including HR, Technology, Risk, and Compliance—to implement effective security controls, promote best practices, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as SOX. This role is vital for safeguarding sensitive data, supporting audit processes, and upholding the overall integrity of enterprise systems.
Workday Security Architect - Summary
- Serves as the strategic owner of Workday security architecture within the organization
- Partners with various departments to maintain secure access management for all HCM modules
- Ensures ongoing SOX compliance and effective audit execution
- Acts as a subject matter expert in Workday security, providing guidance on role-based access control (RBAC), segregation of duties, and data privacy
- Proactively identifies and addresses security risks, implementing improvements to strengthen governance
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design and maintain a secure Workday security architecture that meets industry standards and compliance requirements
- Develop and enforce Workday security controls, procedures, and policies
- Support SOX compliance initiatives, including audit preparation and execution specific to HCM modules such as Compensation, Payroll, and Core HCM
- Work collaboratively with HR, IT, Risk Management, and Compliance teams to implement effective security governance
- Continuously monitor and assess the effectiveness of existing security controls, identifying risks and recommending process improvements
- Lead root-cause analysis for identified security issues and collaborate on the development and execution of remediation plans
- Offer expert-level guidance on Workday security design, focusing on RBAC, segregation of duties, and data privacy best practices
- Document and communicate security standards, policies, and procedures to relevant stakeholders

Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of experience specializing in Workday security, with deep knowledge of role-based, domain, and business process security
- At least 4 years of experience supporting SOX compliance and audits, particularly in Compensation, Payroll, and Core HCM modules
- Expertise in designing and implementing Workday security architecture, including RBAC, segregation of duties, and data privacy measures
- Strong ability to collaborate and communicate with stakeholders across multiple business units
- Demonstrated skills in risk analysis, problem solving, and continuous process improvement related to security controls
