This Trauma Physician Assistant (PA) / Nurse Practitioner (NP) position centers on supporting the Trauma Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) and Trauma Step-Down Unit, with responsibilities focused on direct patient care on the floor. The role does not involve operating room responsibilities, allowing you to concentrate fully on the critical continuum of trauma patient management from admission through discharge. You will collaborate closely with trauma surgeons, intensivists, nurses, and allied health professionals in a supportive, education-focused environment. The position requires flexibility to work a mix of day, night, and weekend shifts, with the greatest need for coverage during nights and weekends. Shifts are 13.5 hours each, ensuring continuity of care and a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.

Trauma Physician Assistant (PA) / Nurse Practitioner (NP) - Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and management of trauma patients in the SICU and trauma step-down units.
- Perform advanced trauma resuscitation and acute interventions as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Order, interpret, and integrate diagnostic tests, imaging, and laboratory results into patient care plans.
- Participate in daily patient rounds, coordinate with trauma surgeons, intensivists, and nursing staff.
- Document patient care activities in the electronic medical record accurately and promptly.
- Monitor and support patients’ progress, adjust care plans as needed, and facilitate safe handoffs during shift changes.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care teams, providing education and support as appropriate.
- Adhere to trauma center protocols, evidence-based guidelines, and institutional policies.
- Participate in ongoing quality improvement and trauma education initiatives.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program or Nurse Practitioner program.
- Current certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) with state licensure in NJ or eligibility to obtain.
- ACLS and BLS certification required; ATLS certification preferred.
- Experience in trauma, emergency, or critical care settings strongly preferred.
- Ability to work 13.5-hour shifts, including nights and weekends as needed.
