The Transportation Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing the efficient, safe, and compliant transportation of materials, with a primary focus on managing delivery drivers within the laundry services sector. This position is responsible for ensuring that all transportation operations are conducted in accordance with applicable state and federal regulations, while also maintaining a strong emphasis on safety, timely deliveries, and interdepartmental collaboration. The Transportation Manager is tasked with optimizing departmental productivity, planning logistics to maximize service levels, and supporting other plant departments as needed to achieve organizational goals.
In this role, the Transportation Manager will organize and manage daily schedules for drivers, ensuring that all customer orders are filled and delivered accurately and on time. This includes direct oversight of transportation personnel, clear communication with the Operations Manager regarding operational challenges, and a commitment to maintaining a target of 98% or higher on-time delivery rates. The manager is also responsible for implementing and conducting training sessions on safety and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, including Hazmat training, to ensure all drivers are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for safe and compliant operations.
Compliance with DOT regulations is a critical aspect of this role, encompassing both the day-to-day management of transportation personnel and the ongoing maintenance and rotation of company-owned or leased fleet vehicles. The Transportation Manager will also be responsible for fostering a positive and safe work environment, problem-solving operational issues as they arise, and utilizing technology and office software to support the efficient execution of transportation activities.
