As a Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN), you will play a critical role in monitoring and caring for adult patients in an acute care telemetry setting. Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) - Summary
- Provide specialized nursing care for adult patients requiring cardiac monitoring in an acute care telemetry environment.
- Work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.
- Participate in ongoing education and professional development programs to ensure continued competency in telemetry nursing best practices.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Utilize telemetry systems and ECG monitoring to assess cardiac rhythms, place electrodes, and record accurate telemetry data.
- Interpret EKG rhythm strips, including rate, rhythm, PR interval, QRS interval, QT interval, ectopic beats, and ST segment changes; promptly communicate abnormalities to the healthcare provider.
- Identify and respond to life-threatening dysrhythmias, taking immediate action by alerting the responsible provider or emergency response team as necessary.
- Monitor and document pulse oximetry readings, promptly reporting significant changes or acute events to providers.
- Adjust monitoring parameters and electrode placement as needed for individual patients; maintain equipment functionality.
- Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology, with the ability to apply this understanding in patient care.
- Adhere to all unit and hospital standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to telemetry protocols.
- Exercise sound clinical judgment in emergency situations, including patients experiencing potentially life-threatening arrhythmias.
- Analyze and report pacemaker malfunctions, such as failure to sense, pace, or capture, to the provider immediately.
- Provide care for post-cardiac surgery patients, including those recovering from catheterization, CABG, thoracotomy, and procedures involving chest tubes.
- Administer intravenous cardiac and antiarrhythmic medications in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
- Engage in ongoing skills fairs, education, and training to maintain compliance with hospital and Joint Commission standards.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with a diploma, Associate Degree (AD), or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Current, active, full, and unrestricted RN license or registration as a professional nurse issued by a U.S. state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Certification in basic dysrhythmia interpretation with supporting documentation.
- Minimum of one year of full-time recent experience (within the last three years) caring for adult patients in an acute care telemetry setting with cardiac monitoring responsibilities.
