The Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) is responsible for delivering direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments across a range of grade levels. The TVI adapts instructional materials for accessibility, teaches essential skills such as braille literacy and assistive technology, and provides guidance to general education staff. Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver direct instruction and consultative support to students with visual impairments in various educational settings.
- Modify classroom materials into accessible formats, including Braille, large print, tactile graphics, and digital resources.
- Teach students compensatory skills such as braille literacy, use of assistive technology, and orientation & mobility concepts.
- Participate actively with IEP teams to develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans for each student.
- Conduct assessments to determine learning media, technology needs, and appropriate accommodations.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff to ensure a cohesive approach to student success.
- Provide training and guidance to school staff regarding best practices for supporting students with visual impairments.
