Tariff Analyst (HTS Specialist) - Summary
- Support global import and export compliance by managing accurate product classification according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
- Work onsite in Atlanta, GA, as a key member of the compliance team, ensuring adherence to CBP regulations and international trade laws.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional departments, including engineering, supply chain, and legal, to confirm correct tariff assignments and maintain robust compliance standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Review and interpret technical documentation such as engineering drawings, schematics, Bills of Materials (BOM), and detailed product specifications to determine accurate tariff classifications.
- Assign precise HTS codes, following the Harmonized System rules, section/chapter notes, explanatory notes, and relevant customs rulings.
- Document and clearly justify all classification decisions to satisfy compliance and audit requirements.
- Monitor ongoing changes to tariffs, duties, and trade remedies, promptly updating classifications as regulations evolve.
- Assess the risk of product misclassification, communicate compliance implications, and propose mitigation strategies to minimize potential exposure.
- Ensure all product classifications are fully aligned with CBP guidelines, international trade laws, and applicable Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
- Collaborate with internal teams, including engineering, supply chain, logistics, sourcing, and compliance, to verify product details and proper tariff assignments.
- Engage with customs brokers, legal counsel, and regulatory authorities to seek clarification or rulings as needed.
- Maintain accurate classification records, databases, and management reports to support ongoing compliance and oversight.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Strong working knowledge of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), General Rules of Interpretation (GRIs), and relevant customs rulings.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical product documentation, and schematics.
- Experience with classification databases, customs compliance platforms, and ERP/GTM systems (such as SAP GTS, Oracle GTM, or Descartes).
- Familiarity with international trade regulations, trade remedies, and Free Trade Agreements.
- Excellent written communication skills, with a proven ability to document and explain classification rationales clearly and concisely.
- Proficiency with analytical tools, including Microsoft Excel and Power BI.
