Surgical Physician Assistant (PA-C) - Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as a first-assist in the operating room, handling patient preparation, positioning, draping, and tissue manipulation for a wide variety of procedures, including robotic and microvascular cases.
- Perform non-anesthesia minor surgical procedures with autonomy and proficiency.
- Meet the needs of attending surgeons and maintain technical skills across colorectal, breast, plastic, orthopedic, gynecologic, head & neck, thoracic, and urologic surgical services.
- Consult and collaborate with surgeons, hospitalists, intensivists, pain management specialists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat illnesses and injuries in clinic, pre-op, inpatient, and internal medicine settings.
- Order, interpret, and follow up on labs, radiographic studies, and other diagnostic interventions.
- Educate and counsel patients and their families regarding surgical procedures, recovery, and ongoing care.
- Conduct comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physicals, including pre- and postoperative evaluations, discharge documentation, and follow-up visits.
- Maintain licensure and certification as required by state and national authorities.
- Prescribe controlled substances and other prescription-only medications in accordance with federal and state laws.
- Complete timely and accurate documentation in electronic medical record systems, including patient orders, histories, physicals, and surgical information.
- Adhere strictly to universal protocols and organizational standards while performing surgical assistant duties.
- Provide call coverage and onsite patient rounding as required by the facility’s call program.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current or eligible Arizona PA-C licensure required.
- Certification as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) mandatory.
- Robotic surgical experience required.
- Preferred: Experience in hepatobiliary, transplant, surgical oncology, or microscopic surgery.
- Demonstrated proficiency in EMR documentation, PACS navigation, and surgical information systems.
- Ability to prescribe controlled substances per federal and state guidelines.
