Strategic Sourcing Manager
As a Strategic Sourcing Manager, you will play a critical role in driving procurement excellence and category management within a dynamic manufacturing organization. This position is designed for seasoned sourcing professionals who possess extensive experience in direct materials procurement, supplier negotiations, and category strategy, particularly within environments focused on mechanical components and complex supply chains.
In this pivotal role, you will collaborate closely with engineering, finance, manufacturing, and product management teams to craft and implement effective sourcing strategies. Your efforts will be central to ensuring a robust, cost-effective, and resilient supply chain supporting both new product development and ongoing operations. The Strategic Sourcing Manager is responsible for strengthening supplier relationships, optimizing costs, and contributing to the overall success of the organization’s procurement initiatives.

Strategic Sourcing Manager - Summary- Drive the development and execution of comprehensive sourcing and category management strategies for mechanical components and direct materials.
- Lead negotiations, supplier selection, contract management, and supplier relationship management to achieve optimal value for the organization.
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure procurement efforts align with overall business goals and support new product launches as well as ongoing production needs.
- Utilize data-driven decision-making to analyze total cost of ownership, supplier performance, and market trends.
- Develop and implement category management strategies for direct materials, focusing on mechanical components relevant to manufacturing.
- Lead the process of supplier evaluation, selection, and ongoing relationship management—including negotiating contracts, pricing, and service agreements.
- Analyze total cost of ownership (TCO), supplier capabilities, and market intelligence to inform sourcing decisions and drive cost optimization.
- Identify and execute cost reduction initiatives in collaboration with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Create and maintain category roadmaps, support supplier development efforts, and ensure strategies align with business growth and change.
- Review technical documentation such as bills of materials (BOMs) and engineering drawings to ensure sourcing readiness and compliance.
- Develop and implement supply risk mitigation strategies, supporting business continuity and supplier performance improvement.
- Monitor supplier performance, establish metrics, and drive corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead requests for information (RFIs), requests for quotation (RFQs), and requests for proposal (RFPs), thoroughly evaluating supplier proposals.
- Support legacy product sourcing strategies and end-of-life planning to ensure business continuity.
- Track and report on procurement savings, providing financial analyses to support cost reduction.
- Conduct supplier audits to ensure compliance with procurement, quality, and manufacturing standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including engineering, finance, and product management, to align sourcing initiatives with organizational objectives.

- Minimum of 10 years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, or category management focused on direct materials in a manufacturing setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in sourcing mechanical components and managing supplier relationships in complex supply chains.
- Proficiency in total cost of ownership analysis, supplier negotiations, contract management, and category strategy development.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, product lifecycles, and mechanical supply markets.
- Experience with ERP systems, eSourcing platforms, spend analytics, and contract management tools.
- Exceptional analytical, negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
- Solid business acumen and a data-driven approach to influencing procurement decisions.
- Willingness to travel occasionally as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Advanced degrees such as a Master’s or MBA preferred.
- Relevant professional certifications highly desirable (e.g., CPSM, CPM, Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt, PMP).
- Experience in OEM manufacturing or related industries such as aerospace, automotive, heavy manufacturing, oil & gas, or other engineered products is advantageous.
- Familiarity with major procurement and ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, or Jaggaer.
