Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) - Summary
- Directly responsible for the care and monitoring of patients in the Stepdown Unit.
- Acts as a bridge between the Intensive Care Unit and general medical-surgical floors.
- Utilizes advanced nursing skills to manage high-acuity cases requiring frequent assessment and intervention.
- Collaborates with the healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes and ensure continuity of care.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Administer and titrate high-alert intravenous medications such as Cardizem (Diltiazem) and Heparin safely and accurately.
- Maintain proficiency in telemetry monitoring, including real-time cardiac rhythm interpretation and immediate response to arrhythmias or changes in patient status.
- Lead and document complex nursing interventions tailored for patients with cardiovascular and respiratory instability.
- Execute detailed patient assessments, recognize clinical deterioration, and implement urgent interventions as needed.
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to adjust care plans based on continuous assessment and patient needs.
- Educate patients and families about treatment plans, expected outcomes, and post-discharge care.
- Adhere to established protocols, safety standards, and infection control policies to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, quality improvement initiatives, and ongoing training relevant to the Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) role.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- Minimum of two years' experience in a stepdown, telemetry, or high-acuity medical-surgical environment preferred.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.
- Demonstrated expertise in titration of cardiac drips and familiarity with telemetry monitoring systems.
- Strong assessment, communication, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and adapt to rapidly changing clinical situations.
