Special Education Teacher (SPED) - Summary
The Special Education Teacher (SPED) is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating individualized educational programs for students with special needs. This role requires the creation and management of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), collaboration with other educational professionals and families, and the delivery of specialized instruction in both inclusive and small-group environments. The Special Education Teacher (SPED) ensures that all students receive the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally, in accordance with state and district standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Create and manage IEPs that are aligned with state and district standards to address the unique needs of each student.
- Deliver individualized and specialized instruction in both inclusive classroom settings and small-group environments.
- Regularly communicate and collaborate with families, general education teachers, support staff, and other stakeholders to facilitate student growth and progress.
- Monitor and document student performance, adjusting instructional strategies and interventions as needed.
- Participate in IEP meetings, assessment processes, and eligibility determinations as required by the district and state guidelines.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of student progress, attendance, and services provided.
- Advocate for students with disabilities and work to promote an inclusive, supportive learning environment.
- Engage in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in special education.
