Sign Language Interpreter (ASL Interpreter) - Summary
- Provides high-quality interpreting services for students who are deaf or hard of hearing in an educational setting
- Ensures equal access to instruction, extracurricular activities, and school communications
- Collaborates with educational staff and families to support student success
Duties & Responsibilities
- Interpret spoken English and American Sign Language (ASL) accurately during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events
- Support students in both academic and social settings to encourage full inclusion and participation
- Partner with teachers, staff, and families to implement effective communication strategies
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional codes of ethics, such as those established by RID and NAD
- Adapt interpreting style to meet the individual needs of students, considering age and developmental levels
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and contribute insights related to communication support

Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred
- Current EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 3.5 or higher, RID certification, or equivalent state-recognized credential
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English
- Experience in educational settings preferred
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
