Shipping and Receiving Specialist - Summary
As a Shipping and Receiving Specialist, you will oversee and execute the daily functions required to keep warehouse operations running smoothly. This includes handling incoming and outgoing shipments, managing inventory, operating various types of warehouse equipment, and ensuring all safety protocols are followed. The role requires a keen eye for detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with team members, suppliers, and logistics providers. You will play a hands-on role in maintaining the integrity of inventory systems, preparing shipments to meet customer expectations, and supporting the overall mission of the company. Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure all warehouse equipment, including forklifts and cherry pickers, is functioning properly and report any maintenance needs.
- Pull inventory from shelves and racks for shipment utilizing appropriate warehouse equipment.
- Package products for shipping, including boxing, labeling, bar coding, palletizing, and shrink wrapping to ensure safe and accurate delivery.
- Stage finished products for loading onto various freight carriers and ensure compliance with shipping requirements.
- Oversee packaging processes to ensure adherence to freight rules, regulations, and customer specifications.
- Schedule and manage shipments using specialized software to maintain on-time customer deliveries.
- Maintain relationships with shipping and receiving suppliers, and explore new vendor options to optimize costs and quality.
- Submit purchase orders for shipping supplies and negotiate pricing with vendors for management approval.
- Print and apply shipping labels (UPS/FedEx) and generate bill of lading documents for LTL shipments as required.
- Receive incoming inventory, ensure proper documentation, and place items in designated warehouse locations using bar code systems and equipment.
- Monitor all warehouse stocking locations to ensure accuracy in bar coding, item descriptions, quantities, and cleanliness of storage areas.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering strictly to all safety regulations and best practices.
- Conduct periodic and annual inventory counts to ensure accurate record keeping.

Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Certificate in business administration or management is a plus
- Proficient reading, writing, and math skills are essential
- Experience with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to use specialized shipping and freight management software
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to negotiate effectively with vendors and logistics partners
- Skilled in operating both standing order pickers and standard forklifts
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds, with necessary manual dexterity and strength to handle shipping loads
