Sheet Metal Superintendent Overview
The Sheet Metal Superintendent is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing sheet metal installation and fabrication projects of varying scope and complexity. This full-time position is based in Austin, TX, and is integral to ensuring the successful execution of industrial and commercial projects. As a Sheet Metal Superintendent, you will directly supervise field operations, manage project teams, and coordinate with project management to guarantee quality, safety, and efficiency throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead the installation, fabrication, and assembly of sheet metal and piping systems for projects ranging from basic industrial installations to complex multi-system assignments.
- Ensure all work aligns with project blueprints, specifications, and applicable codes, maintaining the highest standards of workmanship and compliance.
- Coordinate with project managers and other superintendents to communicate project status, address challenges, and resolve issues that arise during installation.
- Administer and promote the company’s safety program, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all personnel on site.
- Demonstrate proper work methods and enforce safety and housekeeping protocols to maintain a productive and hazard-free workplace.
- Organize and allocate materials, tools, and supplies, ensuring that teams have the resources required for uninterrupted progress on assigned tasks.
- Monitor the quality of work in progress and upon completion, verifying that all instructions regarding sequencing, procedures, and deadlines are followed.
- Lead, mentor, and provide guidance to foremen and crew members, answering technical questions and offering direction as needed.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of company procedures, policies, technical orders, and directives, sharing this information with team members as appropriate.
- Assist in scheduling projects, assigning tasks, and ensuring efficient use of workforce resources to meet project timelines.
- Communicate regularly with supervisors and project managers regarding work progress, potential delays, and solutions to operational challenges.
- Uphold and model professional communication standards in all interactions with employees, clients, and stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 8 years of verifiable experience working in the sheet metal trade, with at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity leading installation teams.
- Comprehensive knowledge of reading and interpreting piping and craft blueprints, as well as understanding specifications and relevant industry codes.
- Demonstrated expertise in overseeing the installation of sheet metal and piping systems, including familiarity with all major craft blueprints.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise multiple foremen and crews simultaneously.
- Proven ability to schedule, coordinate, and complete projects efficiently while meeting deadlines and maintaining safety standards.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to interact professionally with employees, clients, and management.
- Preference for candidates local to Austin, TX and the surrounding area.
