We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sheet Metal Estimator to join our mechanical contracting team in Dallas, TX, on a full-time basis. Key Responsibilities
- Estimate Preparation: Examine project plans, drawings, and specifications to develop accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for sheet metal work.
- Material Takeoff: Calculate quantities of sheet metal and related materials required for each project by performing detailed material takeoffs.
- Cost Analysis: Assess labor, material, and equipment costs to ensure all estimates are thorough and competitive within the mechanical contracting industry.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring both pricing and quality standards are met.
- Bid Submission: Prepare and submit detailed bid proposals, ensuring all required documentation is complete and submitted within deadlines.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other team members to develop effective project plans and schedules.
- Value Engineering: Identify cost-saving measures and propose alternative solutions that enhance project value while maintaining quality and compliance.
- Documentation: Maintain organized and accurate records related to estimates, bids, and project correspondence for future reference and tracking.
- Market Analysis: Stay abreast of market trends, changes in material prices, and evolving industry standards to ensure estimates are both current and competitive.
- Client Interaction: Communicate effectively with clients, architects, and other external stakeholders to clarify project requirements and address any queries.
- Post-Bid Activities: Support post-bid negotiations, contract reviews, and facilitate smooth handovers to project execution teams.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
- Experience: At least 3-5 years of experience in estimating sheet metal work within the mechanical contracting field.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with estimating software, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with HVAC systems and ductwork design is advantageous.
- Analytical Skills: Demonstrated analytical and mathematical skills to perform precise cost calculations and assessments.
- Attention to Detail: High degree of accuracy and attention to detail in reviewing project documents and preparing estimates.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, enabling effective interaction with team members, clients, and vendors.
- Time Management: Ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem-Solving: Capable of identifying project challenges and developing effective solutions to optimize project results.
