As a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner RN (SANE-A), you will assume a dual role encompassing both forensic healthcare program management and emergency room nursing. Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner RN (SANE-A) - Summary
- Dual-role position combining forensic healthcare program management and emergency room nursing responsibilities
- Provides trauma-informed care and forensic examinations for patients of all ages affected by sexual assault and other forms of interpersonal violence
- Oversees program operations, compliance, quality assurance, and interdisciplinary collaboration with military and civilian partners
- Delivers comprehensive emergency nursing care to emergent, urgent, and non-urgent patients
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage the Forensic Healthcare Program, ensuring 24/7 forensic response capability and readiness
- Perform forensic medical examinations, including history collection, injury assessment, evidence collection, photographic documentation, and preparation of legally sufficient medical records
- Oversee compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) and Defense Health Agency (DHA) policies, including documentation, evidence handling, reporting, and chain-of-custody standards
- Lead program quality assurance, case audits, evidence reviews, and process improvement initiatives
- Coordinate interdisciplinary efforts among Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR), Military Criminal Investigative Organizations (MCIOs), Judge Advocate General (JAG), Behavioral Health, Emergency Medicine, Security Forces, and civilian hospitals
- Direct training, onboarding, competency validation, simulation exercises, and continuing education for forensic examiners and program partners
- Serve as a consultant and liaison for installation-level response teams and committees, and support agreements with civilian partners
- Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care, including triage, assessment, intervention, and evaluation across diverse patient populations
- Administer medications, perform accurate electronic documentation, and ensure adherence to standards of care and regulatory guidelines
- Respond to medical and trauma emergencies, initiate CPR, assist with advanced cardiac life support, and operate specialized emergency equipment
- Delegate tasks, supervise ancillary personnel, serve as charge nurse when assigned, and participate in orientation, cross-training, and process improvement activities
- Maintain a safe clinical environment through rigorous infection control, equipment checks, and adherence to occupational health requirements

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution (NLNAC, CCNE, or CGFNS)
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nursing license (eligible to practice in the U.S. or territories)
- Active certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE-A) by IAFN/CFNC, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Minimum of three years' experience as a Forensic Nurse (SANE-A)
- At least one year of recent emergency room nursing experience (within the last three years)
- U.S. Citizenship required
- Physical ability to lift 20-25 lbs independently and heavier weights with assistance or devices; able to stand for extended periods
