The Senior Accountant will play a pivotal part in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial operations during this critical transition period.
The successful candidate for the Senior Accountant role will be responsible for a wide range of accounting functions, particularly those relating to the month-end close process, inventory management, accruals, intercompany reconciliation, and compliance with fuel tax regulations. Given the ongoing system integration, the Senior Accountant will also serve as a liaison between finance, operations, and IT teams, validating data feeds and ensuring seamless data mapping between platforms. The role demands a detail-oriented and organized professional, capable of managing complex reconciliations and contributing to ongoing process improvement initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and execute monthly close activities within the fuels business calendar
- Prepare and post recurring and ad hoc journal entries, including inventory accruals, intercompany transactions, deferred drydock, leases, and prepaid amortizations
- Perform general ledger reconciliations for inventory, clearing, accruals, prepaids, and bank accounts
- Validate data feeds from Ascend and Vertrax into Oracle, ensuring mapping integrity and correcting suspense postings
- Collaborate with operations and IT teams to facilitate the transition from Ascend to Vertrax, including system testing, reconciliation, and process documentation
- Verify terminal and vessel fuel inventory quantities, valuations, and cost allocations
- Manage purchase order accruals and reversals, with attention to proper cut-off and cost recognition
- Prepare and review intercompany transactions to ensure balanced and accurate records across entities
- Support preparation and filing of Form 730 fuel tax documentation, ensuring compliance and accurate data aggregation
- Produce monthly terminal and cost center reports for financial and operational management
- Identify and implement process improvements for closing, data mapping, and reporting workflows

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within fuel distribution, logistics, or marine operations
- Demonstrated experience with ERP integrations, particularly with Ascend, Vertrax, and Oracle systems
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and fuel excise tax regulations (Form 730 compliance)
- Excellent analytical skills to assess process flows, reconcile complex data, and resolve mapping errors
- Exceptional organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple deadlines
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across functional teams
