The School Psychologist plays a critical role in supporting students' academic, emotional, and social development within the educational environment. As a key member of the multidisciplinary team, the School Psychologist collaborates with teachers, administrators, families, and other professionals to help create safe, supportive, and effective learning environments for all students. This position is essential for addressing students' individual needs, conducting comprehensive assessments, and implementing evidence-based interventions to promote student success. The School Psychologist also serves as an advocate for students, ensuring that their rights are upheld and that appropriate accommodations are provided according to federal, state, and local guidelines.
School Psychologists are uniquely trained to apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Their work encompasses direct support and interventions for students, consultation with teachers, families, and other school-employed mental health professionals (such as school counselors, school social workers), and collaboration with school administrators to improve school-wide practices and policies.
Within the dynamic educational setting, the School Psychologist conducts psychoeducational evaluations, interprets assessment data, and develops individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who require special education services. The role involves participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, crisis intervention, consultation on classroom management and instructional strategies, and the facilitation of communication between school and home to ensure optimal outcomes for students.

School Psychologist - Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct psychoeducational assessments to evaluate students’ cognitive, academic, emotional, behavioral, and social functioning.
- Interpret assessment results and provide comprehensive reports with actionable recommendations.
- Develop and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with identified needs.
- Consult with teachers, parents, and other professionals on effective instructional and behavioral strategies.
- Support crisis intervention and assist in the development of school-wide prevention programs.
- Participate in the Response to Intervention (RTI) process and support data-driven decision making.
- Facilitate communication between school and families regarding student progress and needs.
- Lead and contribute to professional development activities for school staff on mental health, learning, and behavior.
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including those related to special education and student privacy.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Master’s or Specialist degree in School Psychology or a related field from an accredited program.
- Valid School Psychologist certification or licensure as required by applicable regulations.
- Experience in conducting psychoeducational evaluations and developing IEPs.
- Strong knowledge of child development, learning theories, and behavioral management techniques.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
