School Nurse RN - Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct health assessments and screenings for students
- Administer first aid and emergency care as needed
- Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans for students with chronic conditions
- Dispense and monitor medications according to physician orders and school policies
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records
- Serve as a health resource for students, staff, and families
- Coordinate care with physicians, parents, and external providers as appropriate
- Monitor for signs of communicable diseases and implement infection control measures
- Participate in development and review of school health policies
- Educate students and staff about health topics, including nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention
- Support compliance with state and federal regulations regarding school health services
- Participate in emergency preparedness and response planning

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred, but not always required
- Certification in school nursing (such as NCSN) preferred or willingness to obtain
- Experience in pediatric, community health, or school nursing strongly preferred
- Current CPR and First Aid certification
- Strong assessment, clinical, and communication skills
- Knowledge of privacy and confidentiality standards (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA)
