School Nurse RN - Summary
- Provides direct care to students and staff, promoting health and preventing disease within the school community.
- Acts as a liaison between school personnel, families, healthcare providers, and community resources to ensure coordinated care and support for students.
- Implements health programs and policies in accordance with state and local regulations.
- Educates students and staff on health topics, including hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assess and treat students for minor injuries, acute illnesses, and chronic health conditions during school hours.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to physician orders and school policy.
- Maintain comprehensive health records for all students, ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
- Develop and implement individualized health care plans for students with special medical needs.
- Monitor communicable diseases and implement infection control procedures as needed.
- Participate in the development and execution of emergency response plans, including first aid and CPR as required.
- Provide health screenings, such as vision and hearing assessments, and refer students for follow-up care when appropriate.
- Offer health counseling and guidance to students, parents, and staff regarding wellness, disease prevention, and health management.
- Ensure compliance with state immunization requirements and maintain up-to-date records.
- Collaborate with teachers and school counselors to support student attendance and academic readiness through health interventions.
- Serve as a health resource and educator for classroom presentations and staff training sessions.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) considered with relevant experience.
- Previous experience in pediatrics, public health nursing, or school health setting is advantageous.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR required.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding school health services and immunization mandates.
