We are seeking a dedicated Safety Engineer to join our team on a full-time basis in San Diego, CA. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct weekly safety audits of active projects to identify hazards and areas for improvement, and assist in implementing corrective actions.
- Support project teams during safety start-up phases by reviewing and advising on project-specific safety concerns, such as handling hazardous materials, appropriate signage, and safety supplies.
- Participate in daily jobsite inspection programs, ensuring continuous monitoring and assessment of workplace conditions.
- Engage in weekly all-hands safety meetings and pre-task planning meetings to reinforce safe work practices.
- Attend weekly staff and subcontractor foreman meetings to stay informed on project updates and safety requirements.
- Deliver safety-related training and orientation to field personnel, fostering a knowledgeable and prepared workforce.
- Assist the Safety Director in developing and updating safety standards, policies, and procedures to align with evolving industry regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulatory standards, including OSHA, DOSH, and NFPA guidelines, and ensure company-wide compliance.
- Respond to jobsite accidents and injuries, conducting investigations, and supporting teams in documentation and follow-up reporting.
- Address regulatory site visits by coordinating with relevant authorities and ensuring all site safety documentation is accurate and accessible.
- Maintain necessary computer skills to manage OSHA logs, track incident rates, and prepare safety training materials and reports.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field, or at least two years of progressive construction safety experience.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems, collaborate effectively in a team environment, and communicate clearly and concisely.
- Strong knowledge base in OSHA, DOSH, and NFPA standards relevant to the construction industry.
- Proven experience in maintaining comprehensive safety and health programs with a proactive approach to accident prevention and reduction.
- Experience in conducting accident investigations, reporting, job hazard analysis, and implementing hazard abatement measures.
- Familiarity with fall protection, hazardous energy control, electrical safety, confined spaces, trenching, cranes, rigging, scaffolding, and demolition safety protocols.
- Ability to work various shifts and adapt to different weather conditions as required by project needs.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and computer skills, including experience with OSHA 300 logs and presentation software for safety meetings.
- Competent person training in Focus Four, OSHA 500, Rigging, or CHST Certification is a plus.
Certifications
- EPA Asbestos Inspector/Contractor Supervisor certification.
- Competent Person Training in Trench/Excavation, Fall Protection, and Scaffolds.
- HAZWOPER 29 CFR 1910.120 certification with annual refresher.
- Completion of a 40-hour Industrial Hygiene Fundamentals course every five years.
- Fed-OSHA 30-hour Construction Outreach or OSHA 500 training every four years.
- Current CPR/First Aid training as prescribed.
