Safety Coordinator - Summary
As a Safety Coordinator, you will be responsible for supporting the daily management of health and safety programs. Your key focus will be on risk assessment, safety training, and compliance monitoring, ensuring that all safety protocols and regulatory requirements are consistently met. The role also includes administrative and educational responsibilities, making it an excellent fit for someone who enjoys both hands-on and organizational tasks.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct regular safety surveys, job hazard analyses, and site inspections to identify risks and propose corrective measures.
- Prepare comprehensive reports documenting safety findings, recommendations, and follow-ups to verify the implementation of safety measures.
- Assist with post-incident investigations, identifying potential causes and hazards, and report findings to the Safety Manager.
- Support the implementation of safety programs, including organizing and conducting training sessions such as CPR-First Aid, Lockout Tag Out, and Forklift Certification.
- Lead emergency preparedness drills covering scenarios like active shooter situations, earthquakes, and fires.
- Maintain accurate training files, safety records, and administrative reports to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
- Conduct new-hire safety orientations and coordinate pre-employment physicals, drug and alcohol testing, and safety briefings.
- Facilitate effective communication within teams, especially during high-stress situations, and manage after-hours or weekend safety changes as needed.
- Organize and monitor safety meetings, documenting discussions and resolutions related to specific safety concerns.
- Maintain positive working relationships with clients, team members, and external agencies, ensuring courteous and respectful interactions at all times.
- Administer and track workers’ compensation claims and related documentation for efficient record-keeping.
- Collaborate closely with the Safety Manager and assist supervisors during regulatory inspections or investigations.
- Build cooperative partnerships with the Corporate Safety Department and support field and operations teams as required.
- Manage data entry and reporting, including tracking training activities and summarizing safety metrics.
- Provide general administrative support, including answering phones, filing, scanning, and generating correspondence or reports.
- Troubleshoot safety-related problems concerning material quality, equipment operation, or repairs, and communicate solutions to supervisors and managers.
- Monitor upcoming safety challenges and proactively suggest methods for improvement to relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure all assigned safety tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall safety program.

Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify under company fleet safety policies.
- At least two years of experience in construction safety or a related field.
- Working knowledge of health and safety regulations specific to construction, mining, or transportation industries.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety management software.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel up to 50% and work varying schedules to meet business needs.
- Experience with safety equipment, such as forklifts and cranes, and knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations (e.g., DOT, FMCSA).
- Familiarity with workers’ compensation processes and health and safety financial matters.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.
Ideal Candidate Snapshot
- BA/BS degree in safety, construction, engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum three years’ experience in health and safety roles within construction or transportation industries, or relevant government agencies.
- Certifications such as First-Aid, CPR, OSHA 30 Hour, or status as a certified safety trainer are highly desirable.
- Experience with JD Edwards and HCSS software platforms is a plus.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is advantageous.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and training capabilities.
- Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions and maintain composure under pressure.
- Strong judgment and decision-making skills to manage and facilitate safety programs.
