Repair Technician (RMA Specialist) - Summary
The Repair Technician (RMA Specialist) is responsible for executing a wide range of repair and maintenance operations on returned customer products, also known as Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMAs). This position plays a critical role in diagnosing, repairing, and testing assemblies and components returned by customers to ensure full functionality and compliance with technical standards. The Repair Technician (RMA Specialist) utilizes technical drawings, Assembly & Test Procedures (ATPs), Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs), and specialized tools to perform detailed disassembly, rework, reassembly, and retesting of products. This role requires a strong understanding of hydraulic systems, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining safety and quality throughout all repair processes. Working collaboratively with assembly and test leads, as well as senior RMA coordinators, the Repair Technician (RMA Specialist) ensures all customer returns are processed efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with company protocols.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive repair, rework, and testing operations on all valves and assemblies returned through the RMA process, following directives from management and senior team leads.
- Utilize Millipore sampling, set up required tests, and conduct detailed disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of components as needed.
- Accurately capture and log data from all incoming returns, ensuring each RMA's scope of work is clearly documented.
- Read and interpret pressure gauges, flow meters, and other diagnostic tools to ensure assemblies meet ATP requirements.
- Apply lock wire, sealants, and torque seals as specified in blueprints and work instructions.
- Install internal components using appropriate tools and fixtures, such as arbor presses.
- Identify and troubleshoot causes of test failures, suggest corrective actions, and communicate findings to management for approval.
- Document lean process improvement ideas to enhance departmental efficiency.
- Maintain clean and organized workstations, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly handled and stored.
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards and proper handling of chemicals.
- Assist in the inspection process and learn inspection techniques as required to support departmental needs.
- Prepare evaluation and test results in teardown reports using Microsoft Word and update the RMA Log in Microsoft Excel.
- Generate failure analysis reports and PowerPoint presentations as required.
- Support cross-functional teams, including inspection and assembly, as directed by management.

Qualifications & Requirements
- High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- 2-4 years of related experience in repair, assembly, or maintenance operations, preferably involving hydraulic systems or similar technical fields.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic principles and systems is essential.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical documents, blueprints, ATPs, and CMMs.
- Solid command of English, both written and spoken, with the ability to present technical findings clearly to team members and management.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, as well as the ability to measure and calculate using standard units.
- Demonstrated ability in critical thinking and problem-solving related to technical repair scenarios.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic computer skills, including ERP/inventory systems.
- Hydraulics certification and experience with component inspection processes are highly preferred.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the role, including frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 25 lbs, and occasional exposure to mechanical and chemical environments.
