The Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering comprehensive behavioral health care services, including patient assessments, development and implementation of individualized treatment plans, medication administration, and crisis intervention. You will collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of high-quality, compassionate, and age-appropriate care across the continuum of behavioral health services. Emphasis is placed on compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) and Joint Commission standards, as well as maintaining exemplary communication with patients and colleagues at all times.
In this role, you will work with a diverse patient population, ranging from children and adolescents to adults, ensuring that each patient’s care plan is tailored to their unique needs. You will be expected to participate in a variety of healthcare team activities, such as patient care conferences, discharge planning, and interdisciplinary meetings, to ensure optimal outcomes for all patients. The Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) must demonstrate proficiency in emergency care, psychiatric crisis intervention, and medication management, as well as uphold the principles of safety and health promotion in every aspect of care delivery.

Candidates must have a minimum of two years’ experience in a psychiatric or substance abuse treatment setting, an active RN license, and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Familiarity with the Military Health Care System and proficiency with electronic medical records are also essential for success in this role. Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) - Summary
- Provide comprehensive psychiatric nursing care within a multidisciplinary healthcare team at Augusta Military Medical Center.
- Deliver patient-centered care with a focus on behavioral health, crisis intervention, and medication administration.
- Ensure compliance with DoD, Joint Commission, and organizational standards for quality and safety.
- Participate in care planning, patient education, and ongoing evaluation of treatment outcomes.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct nursing assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and document care provided.
- Administer medications (including emergency interventions) and monitor for side effects or complications.
- Participate in patient care conferences, discharge planning, and team meetings.
- Maintain professional communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and support for patients experiencing psychiatric emergencies.
- Educate patients and families on health promotion, safety, and coping strategies.
- Utilize electronic health records for documentation and care coordination.
- Support quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives within the unit.
- May serve as Lead Shift Nurse, facilitating unit operations and patient flow during assigned shifts.
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and personal protective equipment requirements.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Associate Degree in Nursing from an ACEN or CCNE-accredited institution (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- Active, unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in psychiatric or substance abuse treatment settings.
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing, crisis intervention, and medication management.
- Experience with electronic health records and basic computer skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
