Project Engineer Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Project Engineer for a full-time opportunity in San Diego, CA. This role is essential to supporting the technical and administrative aspects of construction projects across multiple sectors, including higher education, healthcare, industrial, entertainment, commercial, laboratories, municipal, and federal markets. As a Project Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful execution of engineering and construction management objectives. Responsibilities
- Provide on-site technical and administrative support for all construction activities, ensuring smooth project operations and compliance with specifications.
- Review and process Requests for Information (RFIs) and submittals in a timely and accurate manner to facilitate uninterrupted project progress.
- Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date project documentation through consistent updating of logs and files.
- Update project plans to reflect RFIs and supplemental instructions, ensuring all changes are accurately documented and communicated.
- Assist the Construction Manager (CM) with estimating and processing change orders, including reviewing contractor mark-ups, verifying calculations, and preparing documentation.
- Provide technical and administrative support to the CM as necessary, contributing to effective project management and delivery.
- Thoroughly review design drawings to verify compliance with established project requirements and standards.
- Conduct reviews of certified payroll, fringe benefits, and hourly rate worksheets to ensure compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
- Manage the close-out and turnover process in its entirety, ensuring a seamless handoff at project completion.
- Oversee daily site operations, ensuring work is performed in accordance with project specifications, schedules, and safety protocols.
- Monitor contractor performance, adherence to safety and quality standards, and take corrective action as needed.
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify progress, identify issues, and recommend solutions to maintain project momentum.
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings between contractors, subcontractors, and the project team to resolve on-site concerns effectively.
- Maintain accurate site logs, including daily reports, weather updates, and contractor activities, supporting transparency and accountability.
- Support enforcement of site-specific environmental and safety compliance, promoting a safe and responsible work environment.
- Provide real-time updates regarding on-site activities and potential risks to the CM and project stakeholders.
- Assist in managing the punch list process, coordinating with contractors on outstanding items to ensure timely project completion.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Building Construction, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in the construction industry as a project engineer or similar role.
- Experience in solar/PV projects is considered a plus.
- Electrical experience is preferred but not required.
- Prior experience working with a general contractor is advantageous.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills and a professional attitude are essential.
- This is an on-site, in-person position, requiring a presence at the project location in San Diego, CA.
- Field experience managing contractors is preferred.
