Project Engineer Job Overview
The Project Engineer plays a key role in supporting the successful delivery of construction projects, working closely with project managers and superintendents to coordinate the technical and administrative requirements necessary for each project. This full-time position, based in Denver, CO, offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a collaborative and dynamic environment within the construction industry. The Project Engineer is integral in ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards, while maintaining strong relationships with all project stakeholders.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist project managers with all aspects of construction management, including procurement, planning, operations, and project closeout.
- Support project procurement activities such as conducting quantity surveys, pricing alternates, preparing bid packages, and developing scopes of work for subcontractors.
- Participate in contract administration, including negotiating subcontract and material purchases and managing project budgets and schedules.
- Help maintain and update project schedules and cost control systems, ensuring timely delivery of materials and equipment.
- Organize job logistics, such as arranging for utilities, permits, licenses, and mobilizing necessary facilities like trailers and temporary offices.
- Assist with project operations by reviewing plans and specifications, coordinating shop drawings, samples, and product data, and setting up logs for subcontractors and suppliers.
- Support quality control initiatives, participate in project coordination meetings, and maintain accurate meeting minutes.
- Track project progress and assist in change management processes, including documentation, pricing, and administration of changes.
- Coordinate subcontractor activities, monitor progress, and process back charges as needed.
- Facilitate the procurement and expedited delivery of materials and equipment, and monitor inventory control.
- Ensure field questions are resolved with designers and consultants, and assist in field operations as required.
- Support the superintendent in maintaining safety and quality standards on-site.
- Assist with project closeout tasks, including completing punch lists, submitting as-built drawings, securing occupancy permits, and finalizing subcontracts.
- Maintain positive working relationships with owners, architects, consultants, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Act as a liaison with building authorities and regulatory bodies as necessary.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of construction-related experience in a similar capacity is required.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team-oriented environment.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and communicate issues proactively, offering solutions and securing timely resolutions.
