Product Engineer – Drives and Motors Summary
The Product Engineer – Drives and Motors will serve as a subject matter expert for drives, motors, and motion control systems within the industrial automation space. This full-time role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, product managers, and global suppliers. You will be responsible for driving new product introductions, optimizing existing products, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting technical troubleshooting. Your contributions will directly impact product quality, cost-efficiency, and customer satisfaction, making this a highly visible and impactful position within the organization.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical subject matter expert for variable frequency drives (VFDs), AC/DC motors, and advanced motion control systems, supporting the full product lifecycle.
- Evaluate and rigorously test emerging products and technologies sourced from global suppliers, providing detailed technical feedback and recommendations.
- Lead and support new product introduction (NPI) processes, including the creation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation and training materials for internal teams and end users.
- Provide second-tier technical support during standard business hours, resolving complex technical issues and collaborating with front-line support teams.
- Work closely with product managers and suppliers to develop and refine product roadmaps, ensuring alignment with market needs and technological advancements.
- Ensure full compliance with UL, CSA, CE, and other relevant regulatory standards across all products and processes.
- Identify, propose, and lead initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality, performance, and cost-effectiveness, leveraging data-driven analysis and industry best practices.
- Support cross-functional engineering teams in making informed technical decisions, fostering a collaborative and solution-oriented environment.
- Contribute to ongoing product lifecycle strategies and champion continuous improvement efforts to maintain competitive advantage.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred, or equivalent hands-on engineering experience.
- 7–10+ years of experience in industrial automation, OEM environments, or controls engineering roles.
- Proven hands-on experience with variable frequency drives, AC/DC motors, and motion control technologies.
- Exposure to PLCs, HMIs, and industrial control systems strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated familiarity with major regulatory standards including UL, CE, and CSA.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently within a structured engineering environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proven track record of effective cross-functional collaboration.
