Process Piping Estimator Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Process Piping Estimator to join our team in Los Angeles, CA on a full-time basis. The Process Piping Estimator plays a pivotal role in supporting our mechanical and process piping projects, ensuring that all estimating services are provided with accuracy and thoroughness. This position is integral to our efforts to procure new projects and maintain strong relationships with general contractors in the industrial and commercial construction sectors. With a focus on profitability and effective project execution, the Process Piping Estimator will collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners throughout the lifecycle of each project.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain regular communications with pre-construction departments of targeted general contractors to identify upcoming project opportunities in Los Angeles, CA.
- Evaluate potential projects to ensure alignment with our company’s business model and strategic goals, with a focus on maximizing competitive advantages and achieving targeted profit margins.
- Thoroughly review project documentation including plans, P&IDs, specifications, and contracts prior to preparing detailed cost estimates.
- Utilize and continually develop skills in computer-based takeoff and estimating systems to ensure accurate and reproducible results.
- Coordinate project drawings, scopes of work, and points of contact with other trades to ensure cohesive project planning and execution.
- Prepare and submit Requests for Information (RFIs) during the bidding process to clarify project scopes and requirements.
- Solicit competitive pricing from vendors and subcontractors to support the development of comprehensive project bids.
- Develop bid recaps, outline general conditions, draft project schedules, and prepare formal project correspondence as required for the estimation process.
- Generate and present job reports in preparation for bid reviews with the Estimating Manager, ensuring all aspects of the estimate are evaluated and validated.
- Contribute to the sales process by developing project scopes, participating in presentations, and supporting negotiations and project closings as needed.
- Participate in kickoff meetings to present scopes of work, work plans, budgets, and highlight any unique project requirements or limitations.
- Assist in productivity tracking of labor units throughout the project duration to support ongoing project management and reporting.
- Engage in daily staff meetings to monitor project progress, identify any deviations from scope, and assist in developing alternate plans to ensure project objectives are met.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in piping, equipment, and pipe fabrication, ideally within the industrial, commercial construction, or process piping sectors.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, for estimating and reporting purposes.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Field or craft experience in piping installation or equipment assembly.
- Comprehensive understanding of piping systems and installation processes.
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain seated at a desk for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting up to 15 pounds as needed.
- Ability to traverse uneven terrain and ascend stairs to access project job site trailers.
