The Principal Data Analyst plays a key role in driving the advancement and automation of financial modeling processes, particularly within the context of cloud cost management and long-range financial planning. This role focuses on leading the end-to-end audit, migration, and optimization of a long-range planning (LRP) model for cloud economics. The Principal Data Analyst is responsible for creating automated data pipelines, building advanced simulation engines for forecasting, and instituting frameworks for model versioning and variance analysis. Success in this role requires a blend of advanced technical skills in Python, a strong foundation in financial modeling, and a deep understanding of cloud cost structures.

Principal Data Analyst - Summary
- Leads the transformation of Excel-based financial models into production-grade Python models.
- Develops and maintains automated data ingestion pipelines from various public cloud providers.
- Implements advanced forecasting techniques, including stochastic simulations and Monte Carlo analysis.
- Ensures accuracy, auditability, and transparency of all model outputs for informed financial planning.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Audit and migrate existing Excel-based LRP financial models into Python environments, utilizing Jupyter Notebooks for maintainability and scalability.
- Design and build automated pipelines for ingesting cost, usage, and rate card data from multiple public cloud platforms.
- Establish processes for data validation and ensure the auditability of all ingested data streams.
- Develop a parameterized calculation engine to facilitate both stochastic and deterministic forecast analyses for multi-year cloud spend projections.
- Implement a robust versioning system to compare different model iterations, perform variance analysis, and generate automated commentary highlighting key changes and drivers.
- Design and execute Monte Carlo simulation engines to deliver probabilistic forecast distributions and conduct sensitivity analyses for risk-adjusted planning.
- Collaborate with other teams to communicate insights and support decision-making with clear, data-driven recommendations.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
- At least 5 years of experience in financial modeling, FP&A, or cloud economics positions.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with Python and Jupyter for financial modeling purposes.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Git and experience in collaborative code review environments.
- Strong understanding of cloud cost and usage data, driver-based modeling, and variance analysis techniques.
