Preconstruction Estimator Job Overview
We are seeking a Preconstruction Estimator to join our dynamic commercial construction team on a full-time basis in Carlsbad, CA. Responsibilities
- Prepare schematic, design development, and construction document phase estimates using industry-standard construction estimating software and tools.
- Perform quantity take-offs leveraging On-Screen Takeoff or similar software to deliver accurate and timely cost projections.
- Review proposal specifications, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to thoroughly understand project scope and estimate requirements.
- Prepare, issue, receive, and review supplier and trade partner proposals and pricing to ensure comprehensive and competitive bids.
- Support project management teams by providing detailed cost information and developing estimates for changes during various construction phases.
- Participate in onsite meetings with clients, owners, staff, and trade partners, maintaining positive and professional relationships.
- Deliver estimates within established deadlines to enable effective project planning and execution.
- Assist the Preconstruction Manager in Design Assist projects from inception through the buyout phase.
- Engage in pre-bid, bid strategy, and post-construction meetings as needed to support project objectives.
- Support value management exercises and help improve constructability review skills in coordination with the Preconstruction Manager.
- Assist with bidding and buyout processes, ensuring clarity in scopes of work and facilitating smooth bid leveling procedures.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with trade partners, vendors, architects, and engineers to promote successful project outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred; a degree in Construction Management is highly desired but not required.
- At least two years of experience in preconstruction, estimating, or related roles within the commercial construction sector is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and familiarity with On-Screen Takeoff or similar take-off software.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills, with keen attention to detail and accuracy in all work performed.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and with external partners.
- Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills to meet project deliverables efficiently.
