Plumbing Estimator Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Plumbing Estimator to join our team on a full-time basis in San Diego, CA. The Plumbing Estimator will play a critical role in the preconstruction process by preparing accurate cost estimates and proposals for commercial plumbing projects. This position works closely with the preconstruction team, Division Vice President, and Division Preconstruction Manager to ensure the delivery of comprehensive plumbing estimates that align with company standards and client expectations. Candidates with a background in mechanical construction and commercial plumbing estimating are encouraged to apply, as this expertise is essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed and accurate plumbing estimates and proposals from start to finish using the company’s latest estimating platforms, such as Quickpen and Auto Bid. This includes developing estimating databases, performing material take-offs, soliciting quotes from vendors and subcontractors, and compiling estimate recaps and proposal letters with all relevant qualifications and exclusions.
- Create project proposals and presentations that clearly demonstrate the company’s capabilities, including coordination and engineering expertise, and showcase a thorough understanding of each project’s requirements.
- Provide guidance and oversight to support staff involved in the preparation of project estimates and proposals, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company procedures.
- Identify and pursue business opportunities with both existing and prospective clients, aligning engagements with overall business objectives and goals.
- Review project proposals to assess scheduling needs, funding limitations, alternative methods, design procedures, staffing requirements, and allocation of resources for various project phases.
- Maintain fairness and integrity in contract negotiations and vendor interactions, ensuring compliance with company policies and ethical standards.
- Develop and sustain strong working relationships with subcontractors and business partners to support project success.
- Attend and actively participate in company-sponsored and external events, including business seminars, to promote networking and professional development.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial plumbing estimating, preferably within the mechanical construction industry.
- Advanced proficiency in the Quickpen and Auto Bid estimating platforms.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and experience with project-based estimating databases.
- Preferred: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with various software tools, including softphones and shared drives.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit at a desk for extended periods while working on estimates and proposals.
- Capability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed for handling project documents and materials.
- Willingness and physical ability to traverse uneven surfaces, climb ladders, and navigate stairs when visiting project sites or conducting field assessments.
