Plumbing Estimator - Summary
The Plumbing Estimator is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of the estimating process for commercial plumbing projects. This includes the preparation, evaluation, and presentation of accurate cost estimates, as well as the creation of proposals that reflect the company's capabilities and value propositions. Working closely with the Division Preconstruction Manager and Division Vice President, the Plumbing Estimator plays a pivotal role in both business development and project execution. This position is full-time and based in San Diego, CA, providing an excellent professional environment in a region known for its dynamic construction sector.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop complete plumbing estimates and proposals from initial take-off to final submission, utilizing current estimating software platforms, such as Quickpen or Auto Bid.
- Establish and maintain project estimating databases, ensuring all data is accurate and up to date.
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and comprehensive coverage of project scopes.
- Recap estimates, prepare proposal letters, and clearly outline qualifications and exclusions as needed.
- Create project proposals and presentations that showcase the company's technical capabilities, coordination skills, and understanding of each project.
- Provide guidance and oversight to support staff involved in estimating and proposal development.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities with both existing clients and potential new customers, aligning engagement strategies with organizational goals.
- Review project proposals for scheduling, funding, design alternatives, staffing, and resource allocation.
- Ensure fairness and integrity throughout contract and vendor negotiations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, vendors, and industry partners.
- Attend industry events, seminars, and networking opportunities to remain current with industry trends and best practices.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial plumbing estimating, with a proven track record of successful project delivery.
- Advanced proficiency with Quickpen or Auto Bid estimating platforms.
- Strong skills in Excel and experience with project-based estimating databases.
- Preferred: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and familiarity with additional software tools, such as softphones and shared drives.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
