The role of Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) involves a variety of responsibilities, including executing the Plan of Care as designed by the Physical Therapist, consistently verifying care plans prior to each visit, and maintaining close communication with supervising therapists and physicians regarding any necessary updates or changes in patient status. The PTA will educate patients and their caregivers in the safe use of prosthetic, orthotic, and assistive devices, as well as instruct them in therapeutic home programs that foster independence and improved quality of life. The PTA must also be capable of handling physically demanding tasks such as lifting and transferring patients, as well as moving therapy equipment as needed within the home environment.

Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) - Summary
- Deliver direct patient care in the home health setting under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
- Consistently promote and adhere to the organization’s mission, philosophy, and administrative policies.
- Follow and implement individualized Plans of Care to ensure quality outcomes for patients.
- Support patients and their families with education and hands-on instruction regarding therapeutic exercises and assistive devices.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and State Practice Act Guidelines.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Administer physical therapy services as outlined by the supervising Physical Therapist and prescribed by the patient’s physician.
- Evaluate and verify the Plan of Care prior to each visit, adapting as necessary to patient progress or changes in status.
- Report any changes in patient condition to the Physical Therapist or physician in a timely manner.
- Instruct patients and caregivers in the use and maintenance of prosthetic, orthotic, and other assistive devices safely and effectively.
- Develop and teach home therapy programs tailored to patient goals and abilities.
- Assist with physically demanding tasks including patient transfers and equipment movement.
- Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely clinical documentation in compliance with agency standards.
- Adhere to scheduling requirements, which may include irregular or on-call hours as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association.
- Current, unrestricted PTA license valid for the applicable state.
- At least 6 months of experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant is preferred.
- Ability and willingness to travel within the assigned coverage area, up to 50% as needed.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license, dependable vehicle, and current auto insurance.
- Physical capacity to lift, push, pull, and support up to 50 pounds.
