As a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT), you will be responsible for performing a comprehensive range of phlebotomy duties, from donor screening and specimen collection to infection control and proper documentation. Your attention to detail and adherence to regulatory standards will ensure the safe collection and processing of blood samples from a diverse patient and donor population. Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) - Summary
- Perform skilled phlebotomy and specimen collection procedures for patients and blood donors.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and military healthcare standards.
- Contribute to the high-quality delivery of healthcare services for veterans, servicemembers, and their families.
- Maintain accurate records and uphold best practices in infection control and safety.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Collect blood samples from patients and donors at medical centers and offsite blood drives.
- Identify patients/donors accurately throughout the collection and processing stages.
- Label specimens and complete administrative records in accordance with established procedures.
- Determine appropriate venipuncture sites and perform phlebotomy using standard blood bags.
- Transport blood and specimens for further processing or testing following established protocols.
- Adhere strictly to infection control, personal protective equipment (PPE), and safety standards.
- Complete standardized training and demonstrate competency for all assigned tasks.
- Provide instruction and training to others when assigned Preceptor/Instructor status.
- Comply with all relevant military, AABB, CAP, CLIP, FDA, and Joint Commission regulations and policies.
- Handle donor registration, prepare demographic information, conduct interviews, and determine donor eligibility.
- Assess donor temperature and blood pressure, document findings, and evaluate hemoglobin or hematocrit levels.
- Input donor data into the Electronic Blood Management System (EBMS).
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support efficient blood collection operations.

Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a recognized academic phlebotomy course, including didactic and hands-on components, or as required by state law.
- National or state certification in phlebotomy, such as ASCP, AMT, CPTACA, PTC-AMCA, NCPT-NCCT/MMCI, or CPT-NHA.
- At least one year of experience as a phlebotomy technician within the last two years is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong adherence to regulatory compliance and safety standards in healthcare settings.
- Ability to interact professionally with patients and donors of various ages and health statuses.
- Competency in specimen labeling, recordkeeping, and data entry into electronic systems.
- Willingness to complete all required training and demonstrate proficiency in all assigned tasks.

Other Relevant Information
- Work schedule may include both onsite and offsite assignments with flexible hours between 0600 and 2200, Monday through Friday.
