As a Phlebotomy Technician (also known as Phlebotomist or PBT), you will play a critical role in supporting the health and readiness of service members, veterans, and their families. In this full-time Phlebotomy Technician role, you will be responsible for screening and evaluating blood donors, carefully reviewing their medical histories, documenting medications, tracking travel history, and conducting vital sign checks to ensure donor eligibility. All activities are carried out in strict compliance with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, AABB standards, and Armed Services Blood Program guidelines. Your work will help safeguard the safety of the nation’s blood supply while providing a positive and supportive experience for every donor.
On a daily basis, you will perform blood collection and apheresis procedures, monitor donors for any adverse reactions, maintain and calibrate blood bank equipment, and keep meticulous records. You will also play an important role in donor recruitment, helping to foster ongoing community engagement and ensuring a steady supply of life-saving blood products. This position requires attention to detail, adherence to regulatory compliance, and a compassionate approach to patient care. Duties & Responsibilities
- Screen and evaluate blood donors by reviewing medical histories, documenting medications, and recording travel history.
- Conduct vital sign checks (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, hemoglobin) to determine donor eligibility in line with FDA and AABB standards.
- Perform whole blood collection and apheresis procedures, ensuring donor safety and positive experiences.
- Monitor donors for adverse reactions and respond appropriately to ensure safety and comfort.
- Maintain and calibrate blood bank equipment and record keeping systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Recruit donors for future blood donation opportunities and assist with donor engagement initiatives.
- Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures, regulatory guidelines, and organization policies.
- Participate in quality assurance and improvement processes as required.

Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited donor Phlebotomy program (The Joint Commission or American Society for Clinical Pathology/CAP accredited).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Certification/registration by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) required.
- Minimum of 50 successful donor collections in an accredited laboratory within the last two years.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Ability to lift and move equipment or supplies up to 50 lbs independently.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and twisting required.
