The Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for screening and evaluating potential blood donors, ensuring compliance with Food and Drug Administration regulations, AABB standards, and Armed Services Blood Program guidelines. You will oversee all aspects of the donor process, from medical history review and documentation to blood collection, apheresis procedures, and post-donation monitoring. Maintaining accurate records and ensuring donor safety are central to this role, as is supporting recruitment efforts to encourage future donations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and documenting donor medical histories, medications, and travel to determine eligibility in accordance with regulatory and organizational guidelines.
- Performing whole blood collection and donor care procedures in compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations and local policies to guarantee safe products and a positive donor experience.
- Assisting with apheresis procedures, including taking vital signs and conducting secondary assessments to ensure donor suitability and safety.
- Maintaining a high success rate in allogeneic and autologous whole blood collection procedures, as well as scheduling blood, plasmapheresis, and plateletpheresis procedures.
- Monitoring donors during the donation process, observing for and responding to adverse reactions to ensure donor well-being at all times.
- Recruiting donors for future blood donation opportunities and supporting ongoing recruitment initiatives to maintain a robust donor pool.
- Adhering to all regulatory requirements, operating procedures, and quality standards to ensure compliance and the highest standard of care.
- Maintaining and calibrating blood bank equipment and accurately managing all required records and documentation.
This role requires physical capability to lift and move equipment or supplies up to 50 lbs, including blood boxes and mobile collection equipment. Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and twisting are integral to the daily workflow. The position follows a Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm schedule, providing a stable routine with opportunities to interact closely with a diverse donor population.

Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited donor Phlebotomy program (The Joint Commission or American Society for Clinical Pathology [CAP]).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Certification/registration as determined by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).
- At least 50 successful donor collections performed in an accredited laboratory within the past two years.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
