Perfusionist (CCP) - Summary
- Operate and manage heart-lung machines and extracorporeal circulation equipment during cardiac and related surgeries.
- Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to deliver optimal care.
- Monitor and maintain the patient’s physiological status throughout surgical procedures requiring cardiopulmonary bypass.
- Ensure the safe administration of blood products and medications as needed during surgery.
- Play a critical role in maintaining patient safety and supporting positive surgical outcomes.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare, operate, and monitor the heart-lung machine and other extracorporeal support devices for patients undergoing cardiac surgery, vascular procedures, and other complex operations.
- Assess and adjust blood flow, oxygenation, and temperature as needed to maintain patient stability.
- Document all perfusion-related activities, ensuring compliance with hospital protocols and regulatory standards.
- Participate in preoperative planning and postoperative patient care as a valued member of the surgical team.
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot perfusion equipment to ensure optimal performance and patient safety.
- Participate in continuing education and training activities to remain current with advances in perfusion technology and best practices.
- Assist with blood conservation techniques, autotransfusion, and cell saver operations as required.
- Adhere to infection control procedures and safety protocols at all times.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in perfusion technology, cardiovascular science, or a related field.
- Certification as a Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or equivalent accrediting body.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Strong knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and extracorporeal circulation principles.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work effectively under pressure.
