The Perfusionist position is integral to the success of complex surgical procedures, particularly those involving cardiopulmonary bypass. Perfusionist - Summary- Operate heart-lung machines and related equipment during surgical procedures
- Work collaboratively with surgical and critical care teams
- Maintain patient safety and monitor physiological parameters during procedures
- Keep up-to-date with the latest advancements in perfusion technology and protocols
- Prepare and operate extracorporeal circulation equipment during cardiac and thoracic surgeries
- Monitor and manage patient blood flow, oxygenation, and body temperature
- Assist in the administration of blood products and medications as needed
- Document perfusion activities accurately in patient records
- Conduct equipment checks, maintenance, and calibration
- Participate in emergency procedures and respond promptly to intraoperative changes
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans
- Adhere to safety standards and infection control policies
- Engage in ongoing education and training to maintain certification and improve skills

- Graduation from an accredited perfusion education program
- Current certification as a Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) or eligibility to obtain certification
- Strong knowledge of cardiopulmonary bypass procedures and equipment
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Adherence to professional, ethical, and safety standards
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications preferred
