Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN) - Summary
The Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients, from infancy through adolescence, in a clinical setting. This role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, advocating for patients and their families, and utilizing advanced clinical knowledge to support optimal patient outcomes. As a Pediatric Registered Nurse (RN), you will be expected to demonstrate expertise in pediatric healthcare, provide education to families, and ensure that all care aligns with current clinical standards and best practices. Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of age-specific nursing care for pediatric patients from 1 day to 18 years of age.
- Provide critical and labor-intensive care to patients with complex medical and surgical conditions, ensuring safe and effective interventions.
- Administer medications through various routes (IV, oral, subcutaneous, transdermal, rectal, intramuscular) in accordance with the five rights of medication administration and professional nursing standards.
- Monitor, document, and report patient symptoms, reactions, and progress, using both manual and electronic health records as per Department of Nursing standards.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals during treatments and examinations, and assist with admissions, discharges, and patient education.
- Supervise and provide guidance to LPNs and unlicensed assistive personnel, interpreting collected data and communicating pertinent information to the medical team.
- Function as a patient advocate, developing and implementing individualized care and instruction plans based on patient and family needs.
- Initiate intravenous lines, obtain laboratory specimens, and perform dressing changes, minor wound care, splinting, and urinary catheterization using aseptic techniques.
- Perform life-saving measures as required, including responding to emergencies and operating critical care equipment such as defibrillators, EKG machines, and cardiac monitors.
- Participate in quality assurance, risk management, and infection control initiatives, contributing to a safe care environment for patients and staff.
- Ensure patient rooms are cleaned and stocked between use, and that all documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted promptly.
- Engage in collaborative care planning, communicate patient status to other units/wards, and participate in research projects or committees as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) from an institution accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Certifications required: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Life Support (ALS).
- At least two years of nursing experience within the past four years, including family practice or pediatric primary care experience (pediatric nursing preferred).
- Demonstrated proficiency in pediatric nursing principles, medication administration, patient assessment, and emergency response.
