The APP collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide advanced, patient-centered care in a dedicated Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This unit supports an active cardiac surgical program, including advanced therapies such as short-term mechanical circulatory support (e.g., ECMO), and is expanding to offer long-term support with ventricular assist devices (VADs) and heart transplantation.
As a Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care APP, you will contribute expertise across the age spectrum, from premature neonates to adults with congenital heart disease (CHD). The role involves managing complex medical and surgical cases, ensuring continuity of care, and supporting patients and families through critical health events. Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Summary
- Provide advanced clinical care in a dedicated Pediatric Cardiac ICU.
- Work with a multidisciplinary team to manage complex cardiac patients, including those requiring mechanical circulatory support and transplantation.
- Deliver care to patients ranging from neonates to adults with congenital heart disease.
- Participate in 24/7 coverage, ensuring the highest standards of patient care.
- Support the ongoing expansion of advanced cardiac services, including VADs and heart transplantation.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments and develop individualized care plans for pediatric cardiac ICU patients.
- Manage and monitor patients undergoing complex cardiac surgical interventions and mechanical circulatory support, such as ECMO and VADs.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to deliver coordinated, evidence-based care.
- Perform procedures and interventions within the APP scope of practice, under established protocols and guidelines.
- Educate patients and families on disease processes, treatment options, and post-discharge care to facilitate optimal outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and the implementation of best practices within the cardiac ICU.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to the training of new staff and students as appropriate.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) with the ability to practice in the state of Florida.
- Certification as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) with a focus on pediatric or cardiac critical care preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in pediatric cardiac intensive care or a related critical care setting.
- Advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic, and procedural skills relevant to pediatric cardiac ICU practice.
