As a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (PNP-AC) – Critical Care, you will play a pivotal role in providing advanced medical care for critically ill children within a large and growing PICU. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will utilize your expertise in pediatric critical care to perform advanced procedures, manage ventilatory support, and ensure exceptional patient care through evidence-based practices. The role requires a minimum of one year of pediatric critical care advanced practice experience and offers flexibility in shift scheduling, making it an ideal fit for practitioners seeking professional growth and work-life balance.
This locum tenens position provides an initial 13-week assignment with the opportunity for extension, allowing you to develop your clinical skills while supporting a renowned children’s hospital during an exciting period of expansion. Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (PNP-AC) – Critical Care Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver advanced medical care to critically ill pediatric patients in the PICU
- Perform advanced procedures, including lumbar punctures, femoral central venous line placement, peripheral arterial line placement, pigtail chest tube insertion (rare), and intubation
- Manage various ventilators, such as Servo, LTV, and Trilogy vents
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans
- Monitor patient progress, adjust treatments as necessary, and provide comprehensive documentation
- Participate in daily rounds, case discussions, and quality improvement initiatives
- Adhere to hospital protocols, safety standards, and best practices in pediatric critical care
- Maintain effective communication with families, providing education and support as needed
- Contribute to the positive, team-oriented culture of the PICU

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current licensure as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Acute Care (PNP-AC) or Physician Assistant (PA-C) with pediatric critical care experience
- At least one year of advanced practice experience in a pediatric critical care setting
- Proficiency in advanced pediatric procedures outlined above
- Experience managing various ventilators in a high-acuity environment
- Eligible for state licensure; active state license highly preferred (candidates "in process" considered)
- Ability to work 12+ shifts per four-week period, including nights, holidays, and weekends as needed
- Quick emergency credentialing available (under 2 months)
