The Payroll Specialist position is a hybrid role, offering a balance of onsite and remote work in Jacksonville, FL, and is initially structured as a 12-month contract with the potential for extension or conversion to a permanent role.
In this position, the Payroll Specialist will utilize integrated HR/Payroll systems to manage various payroll processes, including time entry, pay rate verification, employee tax updates, and the production and processing of payrolls. The successful candidate will maintain up-to-date knowledge of union contracts and regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance and accuracy in all payroll-related matters. Additionally, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for preparing union benefit and third-party payments, as well as promptly researching and resolving payroll inquiries from employees across multiple business units.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint, is required, along with demonstrated experience using Oracle Payroll HCM and ADP Smart Compliance. The ideal candidate will have strong general accounting or financial experience and be comfortable working with mainframe or client-server-based systems. Attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment are essential attributes for success in this role.

Payroll Specialist - Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
- Process payroll for assigned business units, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
- Utilize HR/Payroll systems for time entry, pay rate validation, and employee tax changes.
- Maintain detailed knowledge of union contracts and prepare union benefit and third-party payments as required.
- Review system edits and resolve discrepancies in payroll data.
- Respond to and resolve payroll inquiries from employees, providing a high level of customer service in both English and Spanish.
- Document and update payroll processes, proofreading and editing as needed.
- Interpret, report, and use payroll data to support ongoing business activities.

Qualifications & Requirements

- 1-2 years of general accounting or financial experience.
- 1-3 years of payroll experience, preferably with mainframe or client-server-based systems.
