The PACU RN (Registered Nurse) – Pre/Post Anesthesia Care Unit plays a vital role in delivering high-quality nursing care to a diverse patient population undergoing surgical or procedural interventions requiring anesthesia. This full-time role is essential in supporting pain management physicians, conducting perioperative screenings, managing clinic templates, and ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and infection control. The PACU RN collaborates effectively with multidisciplinary teams, maintains precise documentation, and coordinates patient care to achieve optimal outcomes while participating in the orientation, training, and ongoing education of new staff.

As a PACU RN, you will prepare surgical rooms, circulate for procedures across multiple specialties including orthopedics, general surgery, obstetrics/gynecology, urology, and pediatric dentistry, and ensure patient safety in compliance with national standards. You will also respond to emergency requirements such as cardiac, pulmonary, or respiratory failure and hemorrhage, and assist with regional nerve blocks when necessary. This position requires flexibility to accommodate varying work schedules and a strong commitment to patient-centered care.

The PACU provides recovery services for patients ranging from infants to geriatric adults. The PACU RN is responsible for comprehensive preoperative and postoperative assessments, effective communication with patients and their families, and collaboration with operating surgeons and other hospital units. The PACU RN will also instruct and guide staff on equipment sterilization and ongoing education for decontamination practices.

In this role, you will administer medications, fluids, blood products, and electrolytes, ensure compliance with perioperative and infection control protocols, and operate specialized medical equipment including IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitors, and EKG units. The PACU RN is expected to synthesize clinical data, make informed decisions, and coordinate care across a continuum to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. You must also maintain all required credentials and training, and actively participate in process improvement initiatives to align with national healthcare standards.

The position requires a current, unrestricted RN license, graduation from an accredited nursing program, and a minimum of 12 months of experience in an in-patient care unit or pre/post anesthesia care assignment. The ideal candidate is proficient in clinical documentation, computer operations, and has strong written and verbal communication skills. You must be adept at recognizing and responding to medical emergencies, providing education to patients and staff, and contributing to the ongoing improvement of healthcare services.
