As a PACU RN, you will utilize your expertise in post-anesthesia and perioperative care to manage and oversee the recovery of pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. The role involves direct patient care, supervision of healthcare personnel, and coordination with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes, safety, and quality. You will adhere to ASPAN guidelines and clinical standards, supporting a safe and efficient environment for patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures. PACU RN - Summary
- Provide comprehensive post-anesthesia and perioperative care for a diverse patient population, including newborns, children, adults, and seniors.
- Employ the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve high standards of patient care and safety.
- Contribute to the mission of supporting service members, veterans, and their families by ensuring quality healthcare delivery.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise care delivered by healthcare team members, assigning duties based on scope of practice and skill level.
- Coordinate patient care throughout the perioperative continuum to achieve optimal outcomes related to quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with all clinical policies, procedures, and ASPAN standards.
- Perform thorough patient assessments and document findings accurately in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Administer medications, specialized treatments, and conduct nursing procedures such as IV therapy, wound care, and specimen collection.
- Prepare patients for surgical and procedural interventions, providing preoperative education and support.
- Monitor patients post-anesthesia, recognizing and responding rapidly to adverse signs and emergency situations using advanced clinical skills.
- Operate and monitor specialized medical equipment, including infusion pumps, cardiac monitors, EKG units, and oxygen delivery systems.
- Ensure patient safety and advocate for best practices related to infection control, regulatory compliance, and process improvement.
- Participate in orientation, training, and evaluation programs for newly assigned personnel, contributing to a culture of continuous learning.
- Serve on committees and participate in quality improvement, customer service, and medical readiness initiatives.
- Foster effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to support care coordination and positive experiences.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution (NLNAC, CCNE, or CGFNS).
- Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in a U.S. state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
- Certifications required: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
- Minimum three years of clinical nursing experience in medical/surgical or critical care inpatient settings.
- At least one year of direct experience in post-anesthesia or sedation care.
- Experience providing care from newborn through geriatric populations.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
