Duties & Responsibilities
- Review, analyze, and assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for outpatient medical records, with emphasis on outpatient surgery, wound care, and observation encounters.
- Apply appropriate modifiers and procedural categories in accordance with coding guidelines and computer-assisted coding (CAC) systems.
- Ensure that clinical documentation fully supports all scheduled and performed procedures.
- Maintain high standards of coding accuracy and productivity as defined by organizational benchmarks.
- Manage coding work queues and collaborate with revenue cycle teams to resolve account discrepancies and ensure timely processing.
- Stay current with evolving coding regulations, payer requirements, and best practices in outpatient medical coding.
- Utilize EPIC and other electronic health record systems efficiently for accurate data entry and coding workflow.
- Incorporate feedback from audits and quality checks to continuously improve coding performance.

Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum experience in medical coding, specifically for outpatient surgery records.
- Proficiency in EPIC or similar electronic health record systems is essential.
- One or more of the following certifications required: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA, CCS-P, CPC, CPC-H.
- AHIMA-accredited coding certificate preferred.
- Strong understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines, as well as medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and surgical procedures.
- Knowledge of payer regulations and reimbursement systems.
