Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) - Summary
- Deliver comprehensive perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing surgical and invasive procedures.
- Work collaboratively under the supervision of the Director of Surgical Services and/or the OR Charge Registered Nurse.
- Adhere to AORN Standards and hospital policies to ensure patient safety and quality outcomes.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for surgical patients.
- Prepare the operating room, instruments, equipment, and supplies according to the specific surgical procedure and surgeon preferences.
- Ensure proper identification and verification of patients, procedures, and surgical sites.
- Monitor and document patients’ vital signs and responses throughout the perioperative process.
- Assist the surgical team by providing required instruments and supplies during procedures.
- Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique and infection control protocols at all times.
- Advocate for patient safety and comfort, addressing any concerns promptly and professionally.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare staff to coordinate patient care.
- Participate in preoperative and postoperative patient education as needed.
- Document nursing interventions and observations accurately in patient records.
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives within the surgical department.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Experience in an operating room or perioperative nursing setting strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of AORN Standards and hospital surgical protocols.
- Excellent assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
