Operating Room Nurse (RN) - Summary
- Provides comprehensive nursing care to patients before, during, and after surgical procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts thorough preoperative assessments, including reviewing patient history, verifying surgical consent, and preparing patients physically and emotionally for surgery.
- Prepares the operating room by ensuring all necessary surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment are sterilized and readily available.
- Assists with patient positioning and ensures proper use of surgical drapes and sterile techniques.
- Monitors patient vital signs and physiological responses throughout the surgical procedure.
- Documents intraoperative care and communicates patient status to the surgical team.
- Administers medications and assists with anesthesia as directed by the anesthesiologist.
- Facilitates communication between the patient, surgical team, and patient’s family as appropriate.
- Assists with post-anesthesia care and monitors patients during recovery, identifying and responding to any complications.
- Maintains accurate patient records in accordance with healthcare regulations and organizational policies.
- Participates in ongoing quality improvement initiatives and safety audits.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN preferred).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
- Previous experience in perioperative or surgical nursing strongly preferred but not always required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of sterile field maintenance, infection control, and surgical safety standards.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and work efficiently in high-stress situations.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
