The Operating Room Nurse (OR RN) plays a critical role in the delivery of surgical care, ensuring safe and effective patient outcomes in a high-acuity environment. As a vital member of the perioperative team, the OR RN demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge and technical expertise in multiple surgical specialties including General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Spine, Orthopedics, and Urology. This position requires a strong commitment to patient safety, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to adapt to the dynamic nature of the operating room.

Operating Room Nurse (OR RN) candidates are expected to participate in a rotational on-call schedule, covering both weekday and weekend shifts. The ability to respond promptly during on-call periods is essential, making reliable transportation a necessary requirement. Applicants should be prepared for the physical and mental demands associated with the operating room environment, including extended periods of standing and occasionally lifting up to 25 lbs.

In addition to core surgical competencies, experience or training in specialty areas such as Ophthalmology and Dental procedures is highly valued. For those without direct experience in these specialties, comprehensive on-site training is available to ensure a well-rounded skill set. The OR RN is expected to work independently following a thorough orientation period, demonstrating leadership and critical thinking under pressure.

Competency with electronic medical records (EMR) is a foundational requirement for this Operating Room Nurse (OR RN) position. Familiarity with Meditech is advantageous, though on-site training will be provided to support seamless clinical documentation and workflow. Strong verbal and written English communication skills are a must, as is the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, physicians, and support staff throughout the perioperative process.

Applicants must have completed the AORN 101 training program to ensure a solid foundation in perioperative nursing practice. Certification as a Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) or the CAORN equivalent is highly preferred, reflecting an advanced commitment to clinical excellence in surgical nursing.
