The Oncology Pharmacist plays a crucial role within hospital pharmacy teams, specializing in the therapeutic management of cancer patients. As an integral part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Oncology Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective use of medications in oncology settings. This role typically requires advanced training, such as a Pharm.D. degree and completion of PGY1 and/or PGY2 residency programs, and may also benefit from Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP) and experience with electronic health record systems like EPIC/Beacon. Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to oncology patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Collaborate closely with oncologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to design, implement, and monitor individualized treatment regimens.
- Ensure the safe preparation, dispensing, and administration of chemotherapeutic agents in accordance with evidence-based guidelines and institutional protocols.
- Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, and treatment efficacy, making recommendations for therapy adjustments as necessary.
- Educate patients and caregivers on medication regimens, potential side effects, and strategies for adherence.
- Participate in oncology rounds, interdisciplinary meetings, and case reviews as a subject matter expert in oncology pharmacotherapy.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of oncology pharmacy policies, procedures, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Stay current with emerging research, new medications, and best practices in oncology pharmacy through continuing education.
- Support the training and mentorship of pharmacy residents, students, and new staff members.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited institution.
- Completion of a PGY1 and/or PGY2 pharmacy residency, preferably with an oncology focus.
- Active pharmacist license in the relevant state.
- Demonstrated expertise in disease states, oncology pathologies, and the principles of pharmacology as related to cancer care.
- Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP) highly preferred.
- Experience with EPIC/Beacon electronic medical record systems is advantageous.
- Strong communication, clinical assessment, and problem-solving skills.
