The OB Hospitalist Physician, also recognized as an OB/GYN Hospitalist, plays a critical role in providing specialized obstetrical and gynecological care within a hospital setting. OB Hospitalist Physician (OB/GYN Hospitalist) - Summary
- Provides inpatient obstetrical and gynecological care to a diverse patient population in a hospital environment.
- Works as part of a multidisciplinary OB hospitalist team to ensure the highest quality of maternal and fetal care.
- Acts as a clinical leader and patient safety advocate on the labor and delivery unit.
- Supports community-based physicians and midwives through direct clinical assistance and collaborative practice coverage.
- Participates in daily labor and delivery rounds, with responsibilities that may include high-risk obstetric care and emergency response.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care, including contraceptive services at hospitals where available.
- Manage direct patient care for high-risk obstetric cases, including remote consultation with maternal fetal medicine specialists as necessary.
- Conduct daily board rounds on the labor and delivery unit to review patient status and coordinate care plans.
- Serve as the designated Safety Officer to oversee patient safety protocols and outcomes for all labor and delivery patients.
- Collaborate with community physicians and midwives, offering clinical assistance and practice coverage as needed and as safety allows.
- Participate in shift-based coverage models, predominantly 24-hour shifts, with some 12-hour or mixed-shift opportunities.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Board Certified or active candidate in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN).
- Valid medical license to practice as a physician in the state of assignment.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive, collegial relationships with hospital leadership, hospitalist teams, nurses, staff physicians, and corporate staff.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
- Significant experience in obstetrical emergency care preferred.
