Working as an OB Hospitalist Physician (OB/GYN Hospitalist) allows you to focus on acute care, high-risk obstetrics, and emergency situations, often in coordination with Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists through telemedicine when necessary. The role involves both direct patient care and vital leadership responsibilities as the designated Safety Officer in Labor and Delivery. OB Hospitalist Physicians are essential in supporting seamless operations within Labor and Delivery units, serving as resources for both hospital staff and affiliated community providers.
Full-time OB Hospitalist Physicians typically work a variety of shift schedules, which may include predominantly 24-hour shifts as well as some 12-hour or mixed models. Flexibility in scheduling supports both patient care needs and clinician work-life balance. OB Hospitalist Physician (OB/GYN Hospitalist) - Summary- Hospital-based physician specializing in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN Hospitalist)
- Focus on acute, high-risk, and emergency obstetric care
- Collaboration with Maternal Fetal Medicine and the broader clinical team
- Key role in patient safety and quality outcomes within Labor and Delivery
- Provide comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care, including contraceptive services (where applicable)
- Deliver direct patient care to high-risk obstetric patients, including utilizing telemedicine support for Maternal Fetal Medicine consultations
- Participate in daily Labor and Delivery board rounds to coordinate patient care
- Serve as Safety Officer on Labor and Delivery, ensuring all patients receive the highest standard of care
- Support community physicians and midwives through clinical assistance and practice coverage as needed
