OB Hospitalist Physician (OB/GYN Hospitalist) - Summary
The OB Hospitalist Physician (OB/GYN Hospitalist) serves as a critical team member on the Labor and Delivery unit, providing high-quality obstetrical and gynecological care. This role involves delivering direct patient care, particularly to high-risk patients, ensuring safety protocols, participating in board rounds, and collaborating with various healthcare professionals. The position is designed for board-certified or board-eligible OB/GYN physicians who possess strong clinical acumen and interpersonal skills. Flexibility to work 24-hour, 12-hour, or mixed shifts is required, with full-time clinicians typically working a set number of shifts per block. The OB Hospitalist Physician is also responsible for supporting and consulting with community providers, ensuring comprehensive and coordinated patient care.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide obstetrical and gynecological care to patients, including contraceptive services at applicable hospitals.
- Deliver direct care to high-risk obstetric patients, utilizing Maternal Fetal Medicine support when available via telemedicine or consultation.
- Participate actively in daily Labor and Delivery board rounds, contributing to interdisciplinary patient care planning.
- Serve as the Safety Officer on Labor and Delivery to maintain and promote the highest standards of patient safety for all patients, regardless of primary admitting clinician.
- Support and assist community physicians and midwives by providing clinical assistance, practice coverage, and consultation as requested and as safely available.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with hospital policies and professional standards.
- Promote a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and respect among all members of the clinical team, including nurses, staff physicians, and hospital administration.
- Engage in continuous professional development and mandatory training to stay current with the latest best practices in obstetrics and gynecology.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Board Certified or active candidate in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN Physician).
- Licensed to practice medicine in the state of assignment, with all credentials in good standing.
- Demonstrated ability to build rapport and positive working relationships with hospital leadership, hospitalist teams, nurses, staff physicians, and administrative staff.
- Strong commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and collaborative practice.
- Significant experience in handling obstetrical emergencies is preferred.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
